History of Medicine Bow Technologies
The origination of Medicine Bow Technologies was a result of issues facing the management at Ivinson Memorial Hospital, a 100-bed, 50 physician facility located in Laramie, Wyoming.
With a myriad of hardware and software configurations that did not communicate internally or externally, the Ivinson Memorial Hospital management team realized it was time to upgrade to a solution that would curb rising costs while providing a unified platform to deliver healthcare. Their goal was to replace all of the disparate legacy systems with an integrated solution that would link all facets of the hospitals technologies and information.
Working under the leadership of Ivinson Memorial Hospital's management and board of directors, CS Partners (a Portland Oregon based consulting group) used their modeling tools to detail the feasibility of a new technology services company which could provide integrated solutions spanning all clinical, financial and administrative facets. Through extensive research and analysis, a 5-year plan was formulated detailing the business model, hardware and software acquisition, financial forecasting, data center requirements, service offerings, and staffing. They illustrated that by leveraging the implementation and support costs of the new systems amongst multiple locations, a shared service provider would be able to provide a significant potential cost reduction to smaller healthcare groups regionally. In fact, the new company would not only be able to provide advanced, integrated hospital systems for the next 10 years, but could potentially save millions of dollars while offering affordable HIS and PACS solutions to regional hospitals – a true win/win scenario for Ivinson Memorial, for the community and its constituents, and for healthcare organizations throughout the region.
In 2006, the Ivinson Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees approved the plan, established the initial funding, appointed a Board of Directors, and contracted the new company, called Medicine Bow Technologies, to be their exclusive provider of information technology.
