Our Name: Medicine Bow Technologies
Proud of our heritage, the name chosen for our company combines medical traditions hundreds of years old with modern technological solutions.
Native American tribes inhabiting southeastern Wyoming discovered Mountain Mahogany growing in one of the high valleys. From this wood they were able to fashion bows of exceptional quality. It became the custom of friendly tribes to assemble annually and construct their weapons made of this wood. Over time these gatherings became an anticipated celebration and were used as a forum for hosting ceremonial powwows aimed at curing the diseases that plagued tribes at that time. These rituals became known as ‘making medicine’. The settlers associated the terms ‘making medicine’ and ‘making bow’, and eventually Medicine Bow became the shorthand name for the locality. The river flowing through the area became the Medicine Bow River, and since its headwaters originated in the mountains to the south, they were called the Medicine Bow Mountains. Laramie, Wyoming, home of Medicine Bow Technologies, is located at the base of the Medicine Bow Range.
To this day, the name Medicine Bow still implies unity within diversity, health, and good medicine.
